South Carolina’s electric cooperatives want students across the state to become book authors.
Fourth and fifth-grade students from South Carolina are invited to write and illustrate a children’s book focused on new technologies in the energy industry such as solar energy, smart thermostats, and electric vehicles.
For students in Broad River Electric’s service areas, all books must be submitted to Broad River Electric by Friday, January 31, 2020. Click here for more information on how to compete and for the challenge rules. The winning book will go on to compete in statewide competition against other entries across South Carolina.
The electric cooperatives in South Carolina value education and realize students are the problem solvers of the future. Becoming an energy-literate society is essential to overcoming our future energy challenges. Writing a children’s book on new technologies in energy allows students to widen their knowledge of our state’s energy possibilities.
The Children’s Book Challenge is an initiative of EnlightenSC, an energy education program for the electric cooperatives in South Carolina. The co-ops created EnlightenSC as a way to create better access to energy-related information and activities for South Carolina classrooms. The program has expanded to also include summer graduate courses for educators at no charge. EnlightenSC also sponsors the SC 4H Engineering Challenge – a competition for S.C. students.
