Broad River Electric Cooperative’s 2026 Annual Business Meeting was streamed live on the Cooperative’s Facebook page beginning at 6 p.m. on April 2, 2026. For those who missed it, you can watch or listen to the recap video above.

Voting Results: Bylaws and Trustees

Members voted and passed the bylaw amendment: The BREC Board of Directors proposed the following bylaw revision for approval by the membership, and it was passed by membership. The current bylaws of Broad River Electric Cooperative can be found on the Cooperative's website as a PDF download.

Proposed bylaw: It shall be the duty of the Board of Trustees to appoint a Committee on Nominations, Credentials and Elections (hereinafter referred to as the "Committee"), which shall serve for the upcoming annual meeting cycle beginning at the conclusion of the requisite annual meeting and carrying forward to the beginning of the following annual meeting.

Explanation: This proposed amendment to Section 4.06 of the Bylaws aligns the service time period for the Committee on Nominations, Credentials, and Elections from a calendar year basis to an Annual Meeting cycle.

Bylaw passed.

Trustee candidates up for election:

  • CHEROKEE DISTRICT - DeWitt McCraw
  • SPARTANBURG DISTRICT - Bobby Foster
  • UNION DISTRICT - Anita Whitney

All three elected.

Scholarships

Broad River Electric Cooperative will award two $1,000 scholarships to eligible high school seniors. The random drawing will take place at the close of our business meeting.

Application forms will be available during early voting and registration at our headquarters from March 31 – April 2 and can be submitted by a parent or grandparent of the eligible student.

David and Mary Buchanan of Jonesville always come to Broad River Electric’s Annual Meeting, only missing “the frying pan (member gift) year.” This year, co-op employee Lala Mao helped David register.

Scott Sanders took advantage of the nice spring day to roll in from Chesnee and pick up his member gift.

It took a little longer than most for John Vassey of Glenn Springs to register, as his pups, Brindle and Dollie, occupied the attention of co-op employees Lindsey Ramsey and Kennedi Martin.
