A simple promise

When you spend nearly 30 years in the electric cooperative world, you start to see a pattern. Our cooperative is not just about keeping the lights on — it’s about people. It’s about the lineman who shows up in the middle of the night during a storm, the member who depends on us to help them make their homes more energy efficient and the pride that comes from serving your own community. Over the years, those moments have shaped who I am as a leader. And they’re exactly why I’m so proud to now serve as President and CEO of Broad River Electric Cooperative.

Broad River Electric has earned a reputation for steady leadership, financial responsibility and employees who genuinely care about the members they serve. That doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built over time through thoughtful decisions, a clear sense of purpose and people who take pride in their work. Terry Mallard, our retiring President and CEO, has played a significant role in shaping that legacy, and I’m deeply grateful for the strong foundation he leaves behind.

I’ve been part of the electric cooperative family for nearly three decades, but my heart for service started long before that.

I grew up in the Upstate, in Laurens County, where rural communities helped shape my values. I learned early on the importance of neighbors looking out for one another and the responsibility that comes with serving a close-knit community. I’ve also come to understand that the strength of a cooperative isn’t just found in poles and wires — it’s built on trust. Trust that the lights will come on when you need them. Trust that decisions are made carefully and with your best interest in mind. And trust that the long-term health of the cooperative will always matter more than short-term gains.

The energy landscape is changing, bringing both opportunities and challenges. We will remain focused on reliability while embracing innovation in ways that benefit our members and communities.
