One of the most meaningful parts of my role at Broad River Electric is listening to our members. Whether it’s a quick comment at the drive-thru, a phone call or a conversation I happen to have out in the community, those moments matter. Your feedback often sparks ideas, challenges our thinking and helps us see issues from a perspective we may not have considered—and that makes us better.
While the format of our annual meeting has evolved over the years, our commitment to hearing from you has not changed. In fact, it’s grown stronger. You told us that convenience matters, and you showed us that the drive-thru registration model works best for your schedules. Because of that input, participation continues to increase, and more members than ever are taking part in the annual meeting process.
This year’s annual meeting drive-thru registration will be held March 31, April 1 and April 2. If it’s been a while since you last participated—or if you’ve never taken part—I encourage you to do so this year. When you engage, you play a direct role in shaping the future of your cooperative.
As a member-owned electric cooperative, Broad River Electric operates under a democratic model. That means you have a voice in how your cooperative is governed. Voting in the annual trustee election allows you to help select the leaders who guide major decisions affecting our system, our finances, and our long-term planning. Our trustees serve as a vital link between the cooperative and the communities we serve, bringing local insight and accountability to the table.
This year, members will vote to fill three trustee positions. Details about the candidates can be found in the cover wrap included with this issue. These decisions are important, and your participation ensures the cooperative continues to reflect the priorities and values of its members.
In addition to voting, the annual meeting is also an opportunity for us to report back to you.
During the business meeting on April 2, we will share updates on current projects, review the cooperative’s financial health and discuss priorities for the year ahead. Topics include system improvements, long-term planning and partnerships that support economic growth in our communities. Transparency and accountability are core cooperative principles, and this meeting helps ensure you stay informed about how your cooperative is serving you.
I hope you’ll take a few minutes next month to participate in the annual meeting. Your voice matters, and your involvement helps keep Broad River Electric strong, responsive and focused on the members we serve.
We look forward to seeing and hearing from you.
