Recently, a Broad River Electric member reminded me of a conversation we had at our annual meeting a few years back. She provided a valuable, unique perspective on a community initiative we were exploring at the time. Conversations like this are one of the many reasons I look forward to talking with our members. You always bring value to the discussion, and I know our co-op team is energized by these interactions.
Although we no longer have the traditional annual meeting, your voice is heard. As a matter of fact, we have continued to hold drive-through registrations each year because you told us (and showed us) that you prefer this format to in-person meetings. More members than ever are participating by taking advantage of the faster, more convenient registration process.
This year’s annual meeting drive-through registration will take place on April 1, 2 and 3. If you’ve not attended the annual meeting recently, I’d encourage you to participate. Input from members like you matters. It helps drive the direction of the co-op.
Electric co-ops are democratically controlled by the members we serve, which means you have a say in who governs our co-op. By voting in the annual trustee election, you can weigh in on the leaders who will make important decisions about the future of the cooperative and our local energy needs. We rely on our trustees to help us make more informed decisions on long-term priorities and investments. Broad River Electric board members are the eyes and ears of the community because they provide their unique perspective on various local issues.
This year, you’ll cast ballots for three trustees. You will also vote on two proposed changes to the cooperative’s bylaws. You can find information on the proposed amendments in the special cover wrap of this month’s magazine. As a member of Broad River Electric Cooperative, you have the power to help shape our community’s energy future when you participate in the annual meeting.
You’ll have the opportunity to hear from us, as well.
At our business meeting on April 3, we will report on current initiatives and discuss the financial health and priorities for the coming year, such as economic development partnerships, succession planning and an updated construction work plan. That way, you know about what’s happening at your cooperative and have the information to hold us accountable.
