With the end-of-the-year giving season upon us, we want to take the opportunity to thank you, our valued members, for your continued support that enables us to give back to our community throughout the year.
Many of our efforts are focused on supporting our local schools with supplies and other donations as often as we can.
For instance, we recognize there are many teachers who have innovative ideas to make the classroom experience exceptional for students. Unfortunately, funding for these projects isn’t always readily available. Broad River Electric Cooperative and our Charities Board are here to help, partnering together to offer Bright Ideas Educator Grants to teachers in school districts throughout our service territory.
Bright Ideas Grants were awarded in October to 18 local teachers in Union, Spartanburg and Cherokee counties to fund programs and projects to enrich their students’ education. More than $13,000 was awarded this grant cycle.
Broad River Electric also held another successful school supply drive and distribution this fall, made possible by members enrolled in Operation Round Up. The cooperative donated school supplies to 20 schools and afterschool programs across our service area. When members round their bills to the next dollar, this money is used for giving back to the local communities in our region. Collectively, that extra change provides approximately $100,000 in donations to local charities each year.
You can learn more about the program and how to enroll online on our website.
When our team moved office buildings earlier this year, we also made sure to donate any unneeded items to Palmetto Christian Academy of Gaffney. Donated items included tables, chairs, whiteboards, bookcases and other pieces of furniture.
Thank you again for making these giving initiatives possible.
