In May, the Broad River Electric Charities Board approved $30,300 in donations to nonprofit organizations serving Cherokee, Spartanburg, and Union counties. Donations ranging from $800 to $3,000 were made to:
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate
- Broad River Leathernecks
- Cherokee Literacy Association
- Cherokee County Meals on Wheels
- Evans Training Center
- Mary & Martha Services
- Mobile Meals of Spartanburg
- Palmetto Council – Boy Scouts of America
- Pure Heart Food Pantry
- SC Hunters and Landowners for the Hungry
- The Prodigals Home
- Union County YMCA
- Union County Pregnancy Center
- Union County Sheriff’s Office
- Upstate Workforce Futures Corporation’s Summer STEM Camp
Operation Round Up is funded through participating members of Broad River Electric, who round up their monthly bill to the nearest dollar. Collectively, that extra change provides approximately $100,000 in donations to local charities each year.
